A Shallow Well Jet Pump is an above-ground water pump designed to draw water from shallow sources (typically up to 25 feet / 78 meters deep) and supply it to homes, gardens, farms, or small commercial systems. It uses a jet (venturi) mechanism to create suction, lifting water from the well and delivering it under pressure to a plumbing system or storage tank.
The pumps impeller pushes water through a nozzle and venturi (the jet), creating a low-pressure zone that pulls water up from the well. The pumped water is then sent to a pressure tank or directly to fixtures. Most shallow well jet pumps are self-priming after initial setup.
Designed for shallow wells, lakes, cisterns, or storage tanks
Above-ground installation for easy access and maintenance
Can provide steady household pressure when paired with a pressure tank
Available in various horsepower ratings to match demand
Works with standard suction piping and a foot valve/check valve
Residential water supply
Lawn and garden irrigation
Small cottages or cabins
Livestock watering and light agricultural use
Simple, reliable design
Lower cost than deep-well systems
Easy to install and service
Good balance of flow and pressure for small systems
Not suitable for deep wells (suction lift limited to ~25 ft due to physics)
Performance drops if there are air leaks in the suction line
Generally noisier than submersible pumps since the motor is above ground
Horsepower: 0.51.5 HP
Max suction lift: ~25 ft
Flow rate: ~820 GPM (3075 L/min)
